Title: Friends
Author's Note: Fiction .. That's all~! This is not really a good one. So, yeah. please forgive me.

They just finished their first concert as a 4-member NEWS an hour ago. The four of them had their dinner together with some juniors and their manager. After the heavy meal, they headed back to the hotel they would be staying for the night. Masuda's room is next to his room. Across Masuda's room is Koyama's room and Shige's room is next to Koyama's room. The three had already entered their own rooms.
He is holding his door knob when the phone in his pocket vibrated and he heard his message tone. He took is phone out , it's a message from his mother
" Congratulations!
Yuya, that was fun! I'm very happy for you
Gomen ne, for not visiting you backstage before the concert started
I brought Papa with me this time. We watched your concert together. :)
And we both look at each other when we saw you doing your best to hold back your tears.
Yuya, we know you. We know that you do not want to cry in front of many people. And that you prefer crying alone.
But don't you think it's better to have someone with you to wipe those tears off from your face when you cry or to listen to your sobbings when you just want to cry?
Ahaha~ What Mama really wants to say is, If you want to cry tonight, Mama is here. Just call me, okay?
We love you very much. Take care of yourself always. "

Just before a tear could escape from his eyes, he managed to close the door behind him. He breathed slowly. Yes, his mother is right. It's better to have someone by your side. It's more comforting when someone is beside you

Tegoshi walked slowly to the bed. He keeps on reading his mother's message, debating whether to call her or not

He came to a conclusion, he would call her. He presses the call button and after two rings, his mother answered the call

" Yuya? "

Just the sound of her voice calling his name makes him want to cry on her shoulder. He didn't answer his mom with words, instead he answer her with a sob.

" It's okay, Yuya. It's okay. You did great. All of you did a great job out there."

He just listens to his mom repeating 'It's okay' again. He doesn't want to talk. He just want to cry and his mother understands. He curled up on his bed and cry even more.

To think of it, Tegoshi didn't cry when two of their members leave them. He didn't cry when Koyama, Kato, and Masuda shed some tears when they talked about NEWS' future, that time when they dine together. He didn't even cry earlier. No, he didn't cry, not until now

In all honesty, he wanted to cry when their 6-members group became 4-members group. He wanted to cry because he is afraid everything would end for NEWS. He wanted to cry because of joy when he saw the number of people out there who keep on showering them with love and support.

His crying is getting louder and louder. "Yuya? What about drinking some water, right now?"

"O-okay M-mom. I-i'll h-hang up now mom. T-thanks for the t-time" he managed to answer his mother despite his sobbing.

"You are always welcome, Yuya. And I am always ready to listen to you. Always remember that, okay? Take care of yourself. I hope you'll visit us soon."

His mother's smiling face appears on his mind. After saying his goodbye to his mother, he left his phone on the bed and he slid away from the bed. He headed to the couch to get a bottle of water from his bag. He opened the bottle and emptied it directly. He put away the bottle and he slumped onto the couch and stares at the table in front of him. He is not doing anything in particular. He just stares at it to calm himself down. There was a knock on the door, he heard it but his body is not moving at all. Another knock, but still he is not reacting. Tegoshi is there, but his mind is not. He sat there like a statue. After a while, the knocks subsided. His room is silent again.

Tegoshi was drawn back to earth when his phone rang. His head followed the source of the noise. He stood up and headed towards his bed. He stopped when he heard a knock. His phone stops ringing, he headed to the door but before he opens it, he wiped away the visible tears on his eyes and touched his cheeks, he smiles and opens the door.

With a smile, he greeted Masuda. But Masuda didn't smile back. Instead he furrowed his brows and stares at Tegoshi.

"Massu, why are you looking at me like that?"

Still staring at Tegoshi, he unconsciously touched his face "Tegoshi, were you crying?"

"Huh? Of course not" Tegoshi answered him with a laugh. He let Masuda in and closed the door before facing Masuda.

Masuda didn't buy Tegoshi's answer. When Tegoshi faced him, he stares at him again and put his hands on his shoulders.

"Tegoshi, your eyes are all red. Who do you think would buy your answer?"

Tegoshi touched the side of his eyes and was about to talk but Masuda cut him off

" If you are going to tell me reasons about rubbing your eyes or about dirt, I still won't believe you." Masuda squeezes Tegoshi's shoulder softly.

" Massu, I " Tegoshi wants to tell Masuda but he can't find the exact words to describe what he feels so he avoided Masuda's eyes, averting his gaze to a table.

"Tegoshi... its okay to be weak sometimes. You do not have to be strong anytime. We are here for you, I am here for you.. You can lean on me, count on me.. on us... You do not have to play the role of a strong-willed person when you are with me.. You do not have to play the role of a prankster or a brat everytime. You do not have to shoulder all the burden and cry alone when you have your best friend beside you.."

He is listening. Yes, he is but he still doesn't want to look at Masuda, especially now that his eyes are watering. But Masuda wants Tegoshi to look at him. He put his hand on Tegoshi's face.

" Tegoshi Yuya. Look at me "

But Tegoshi didn't look at him. Tegoshi buried his face on Masuda's chest instead. And encircled his hands around his waist.

" I hate you "

" Eh? You hate me? Why? " Masuda asked Tegoshi and put his arms around Tegoshi's shoulder.

" You made me cry again. I've already stopped crying a while ago but you ... made me cry again "

Tegoshi holds Masuda tight. Masuda didn't complain when he felt his shirt was getting wet. He patted Tegoshi's head, allowing him to cry till his tears dry out. He knows Tegoshi is holding so much pain inside his heart.

Masuda stares at the door, he continued on touching Tegoshi's head lightly when the door opened

"Tegoshi~?" a low, small voice was heard and Koyama's face entered the door  " OH. Massu... is he alright? "  Koyama took a big step towards them, he is concerned about Tegoshi.

Koyama patted Tegoshi's head. He wants Tegoshi to face him but Masuda won't let go of Tegoshi. And Tegoshi won't look up at him, he shook his head and buried his face on Masuda's shoulder.

"Why is Tegoshi's door slightly opened?" Koyama and Masuda looked at each other and at Shige who just entered the room "Oh, Kei-chan, Massu. Where's Tegoshi?" Kato greeted them with a smile. When Koyama moved to the side, Shige saw Masuda is hugging... Tegoshi.

" Massu? "

" The baby of the group is crying. I'm just comforting him" Masuda looked at Kato and Koyama with a wide smile

Tegoshi slaps his back.  " BAKA "

Genre: Friendship

Summary: Summer vacation would start tomorrow. He loves vacation because that means no home works or any other things related to school. And that also means he can sleep all day or eat all day.
A/N:

Summer vacation would start tomorrow. He loves vacation because that means no home works or any other things related to school and that means he can sleep all day or eat all day. His name is Masuda Takahisa. A first year college student.

After his last class, he headed to the dorm directly. He is too tired to take a stroll and too excited to go home, to his hometown. When Masuda opened the door of their room, he saw his roommate already preparing his bag. "You are going home tonight, Kato?" he asked while he put his things on his table.

"Un. I can't wait for tomorrow." Kato said, giggling "... a friend will pick me up tonight." he glanced at Masuda then, "AH! Right, your mother called earlier. She said please let him know that we will get him tomorrow early in the morning" Kato said, imitating his mother's voice yet failed.

"Oi. My mother's voice is not like that" he said, laughing.

Kato zipped up his bag. "Yosh! I'm done!" he said as he picked up his bag and his phone on the table. He faced Masuda before opening the door. "I'm going now"

"Okay, have a safe trip" After his roommate is gone, he get his own bag and prepares his things with a smile.

The next morning, he was awaken by a call from his mother. His mother told him they are already outside. He hurriedly do his things, took his bag and inspect their room for the last time before leaving. Masuda hugged his mother and father when he saw them downstairs.

"How's my baby?" her mother asked, giggling as he patted his head "You miss us that much?"

"...well, sort of."

---

Masuda was asleep all the way on the ride home. But when he examined his surrounding, it's not their home, not their hometown. His father saw his confused look and told him, "We are on your mother's hometown. We'll be spending our summer here." His eyes widen at what his father said. "Sorry, Takahisa.. your mother suggested this, she said this is for your own good. You already know how much your mother hates your laziness. She also said that as long as you are here, it's okay to eat all day because all you can eat here are nutritious and.." his father trailed off, only to look at the left side, pointing a finger across his grandparents' house "...you can do some jogging or play soccer, baseball, or volleyball there. See? It's for your own good" his father ended with a grin.

And he pouted. Okay. His mother's intentions are not bad but he is not the kind of person who wants to play under the heat of the sun. They went inside his grandparents' house, his mother was already inside and she took him to his room, upstairs. He is not happy but at least the view outside is nice. He could see the entire field from his room. It is better than what he thought. There are people playing soccer on the field. Masuda peeked outside and laugh when he saw a man slipped when he was about to kick the soccer ball. He looked at the other person who is laughing out loud at his playmate who just slipped. He could hear his laughter faintly. Masuda find himself smiling when the man (who just slipped) went after his playmate. Masuda heard the man shouts to the other people on the field. He listens to them shouting and laughing at each other.

Kazunari! Jun! Block him!

Sorry Koyama! It's your turn to play with him now!

Oh, come on! Masaaaaki!

What?!

Stop playing with your dog! Catch the brat instead!

Don't listen to him senpai!

Hah! I'm tired! Let's go home now, Kazuya might get angry at us if we won't get you home early!

Nah~ I already told Kazu-nii that we'll be late!

Eh?! But I do not want to play with you anymore!

The field was filled with laughter and Masuda allowed himself to laugh with them as he shook his head. He heard a knock and his room was opened by his mother, telling him to go downstairs to greet his grandparents who just arrived from the market. Masuda nodded and glanced outside again before following his mother downstairs.

---
It's been a week now and Masuda find himself liking his surrounding. He thought it would be boring but it's not. In how he is always looking forward to this group of friends every afternoon, is enough to say that he is enjoying his vacation. This group of friends would play soccer, baseball, or games that only kids would play in the field. Masuda, being an unsociable guy, won't do anything to be friends with them. He just stares at them from his room.

One day, his grandmother was admitted to the hospital. On their way home, when his father hauled up in front of his grandparents' house, he saw the guys at the other side of the road, chatting and laughing at each other. That's the first time he saw them, him, up close. He was holding a soccer ball, laughing at the man who is speaking to him. Masuda heard him talk, he heard him laugh, he saw his face, he saw his smile, and Masuda was dumbstricken. He can't take his eyes away from him. He stares at him until he passed by in front of the car. Suddenly, their eyes met, even if that was just for a second, it made Masuda's heart beat rapidly. He doesn't understand what he feels, but one thing for sure, he loves it... he loves what he feels.

The next day, Masuda waited again at his room. He waited but no one came. His vacation is almost over and just thinking about it makes him eager to see that pretty boy again. Takahisa! It's time for dinner~ He heard his mother calling him and Masuda reluctantly leave his spot on the window. When he was already downstairs, his mother told him something

"I need you to stay with Mom, tomorrow"

"but Mom! I--"

"No more buts, Takahisa. You need to go there tomorrow because your grandmother wants to see you before you go back to Tokyo. Tomorrow's your last day here.. oh and prepare your things now because your father will be sending you back to the dorm tomorrow evening. "

He surrenders. He loves his grandmother. He would love to spend the day with her too. But not tomorrow. Masuda sighs, his wish of seeing him one more time won't be granted anymore.

---
Masuda is now alone with his grandmother 'cause his mother just left. He must say, he enjoyed the time he spent here with his grandmother. They were talking about foods and he was amused when he heard that his grandmother loves to eat sweets very much and that his grandfather would scold her for eating too much sweets. He enjoyed it when his mother was hyper but now that his grandmother is asleep, it's boring.. he wished he is back at his room, looking down the field.

Masuda sighed again when someone opened the door. He turned around and saw his grandmother's doctor..

"Oh, you must be her grandson. Nice to meet you. I'm her doctor. Ohno Satoshi. Did she just doze off?"

"Ah, yes... just a while ago."

"Oh, then.. I guess we'll just continue our conversation about fishing when she wakes up." the doctor said mostly to himself and Masuda blinked "I'll be back later" the doctor added, smiling at him before he turned his back. When the doctor opened the door, he heard two voices talking outside, which are both pretty familiar.

Where do you think he is right-- Ah!

Satoshi-senpai!

Satoshi!

Oh, Kazun

And the door is closed. The first voice his mind registered was his voice. He knew it was him. And the other one must be Kazunari. He already knows them (well, their names) Koyama, Kazunari, Jun, and Masaki.. Feeling his heart jumping on his chest, he rushed to the door and stopped. His hand is hesitating, should he open it? What should he say to him? Shaking his head, Masuda opened the door slowly, he opened it only to find it empty.. He steps outside and frantically looks at the hallway. No sign of them, him.. he thought maybe they entered a patient's room. But how on earth would he know what room they are in? Masuda wants to see him, to know his name, to be friends with him. He was about to run when he heard his father's voice.

"Where are you going?"

"R-restroom!"

"Do you think your grandmother's room don't have one?"

"I... never thought about that" Masuda answered and his father laughed at him

"Come on.. we have to tell your grandparents that we are going back now."

"....but"

"I have to send you early because your mother argued it's not safe to drive at night." his father said with a sigh.

---
Masuda didn't talk. Even when his father said his goodbye and good luck at him, he still didn't respond. When he entered their room, Kato was already their, on his bed, reading a book. Kato greeted him and he just nod his head at him.

Masuda's heart is heavy. He felt like he was betrayed. He is not in the mood to talk. He is upset, very upset... at his mother. She is the one who suggested to spend the summer there. If she didn't suggested her hometown, maybe he won't feel this way.. maybe he won't be upset at her, and at himself. He is angry at himself because he didn't find a way to be close to the guy. He regretted being lazy.. he regretted everything. No... not everything.. because something good happened too. Just like that time when he saw him up close, he heard his normal voice, and when their eyes met, time stopped. But still, it frustrates him.

Masuda likes him. and that frustrates him more, because he likes him but he didn't even know Masuda exists. Maybe at that time when their eyes met but it's just for a second and it's only Masuda who thought that, that time was magical..

When classes started, Masuda considered him as his inspiration. Telling himself that he will meet him again and when that time comes, he'll do anything to be close to him. He told his parents that they should spend Christmas there again. But when Christmas vacation comes, he wasn't there. His friends were there but not him. Masuda didn't see him again.

Months have passed, Masuda is now a 2nd year student. He told himself that it's better to forget him. yet there's a part of him who still hopes that the next vacation, he would be there on the field again.. playing with his friends again. He is confused actually, if it's better to let go or to hold on to his unanswered love.

--
It was an another tiring afternoon. Sakurai-sensei asked him his problem awhile ago, at the same time, scolded him for not listening to him again.. for the fifth time this week. When the class ended, he headed outside the school and saw Kato reading a book at the little park of the school. Sensing that someone is looking at him, Kato looked up and grins at him which he answered with a wave and went away.. He doesn't want to approach Kato now because he is brokenhearted and Kato would tell him the same thing all over again You are an idiot! Just go and ask that Ohno-sensei!

He headed to the greenhouse instead. Masuda wanted to be alone for now, to think about what to do with his feelings.. to forget or not. When he was already inside the greenhouse, he heard a song and he listens because of its catchy tune.

So get out! get out get out of my head
and fall into my arms instead
i don't i don't don't know what it is
but i need that one thing
and you've got that one thing

Damn. Masuda thought. Exactly what I'm feeling right now. Masuda sighs when the song ended. Now, concentrating in the silence he think about his feelings again.. but was distracted when the same song reached his ears. It irritates him. It seems like whoever is playing the song in repeat is making fun of him. Shit. You do not have to say that all over again to me. I know! I know! Masuda told his self. And when the same song was played again, Masuda scurried outside, listening to the direction of the irritating song. Damn student. I can't concentrate here.

He stopped in front of a man lying under the shed of a tree. A book is covering his face, a backpack and a headphone located beside his head, and the source of the song, his ipod, is on his stomach with his hands on top of it.

"Hey, your music is so loud. I was trying to concentrate about something but your music is distracting me. Could you stop that song?" Masuda asked, glaring at the man who didn't move. "Hey!" he called again, this time louder. And it works, the man moves. Holding his book, he lowered it down till his eyes are visible to Masuda, (who clearly disturbed his nap). Shit. The young man sits up, book falling to his lap.

"I'm sorry for disturbing you. I'll use my headphone then." he said and took his headphone. He glanced at Masuda who was looking at him with wide eyes and open mouth. "Is there something wrong?"

Masuda couldn't believe it. He is here, isn't he? The one who sweetly yet painfully haunted his mind for months is in front of him. No, this is just an illusion. OH GOD. THIS PLACE IS HAUNTED. Masuda blinked at the man who put his headphone coolly on his head. The young man glanced at him again and it struck him. He is really here.. In our school.

"Shoot! It's almost time!" the young man exclaimed as he look at his watch. He hurriedly took his things, put his headphone on his neck and his ipod on his pocket. He looked at Masuda then, who is still wearing a surprised look. "Thanks for waking me up. I gotta go. Bye" he slightly smile and turned his back at Masuda.

And Masuda eyes followed him walking away. He was already far from him when he realized he has feet. "W-wait!" he shouted and the man stopped to look at him. "I'm Masuda. Masuda Takahisa. 2nd year." he blurted, staring at the face of the man he.. he had missed.

"Tegoshi Yuya. 1st year. Nice to meet you, senpai." the young man smiles, the smile that made his heart jumped. Warmth enveloped his senses and unconsciously, he smiles happily.

"Ah, you're going to be late. Let's go t-together, Tegoshi-kun. I'm also going there anyway." He lied. But it's worth it now that he knows his name and knows that he is a student of their school.
